An acridine compound with diverse biological activities and cell labeling properties; has anti-protozoal properties; prevents misfolding of prion protein (EC50 = 0.3 μM); blocks voltage-dependent sodium channels (IC50 = 3.3 μM); inhibits aldehyde oxidase (IC50 = 3.3 μM); antagonizes the riboflavin-binding protein (Ki = 6.7 μM); inhibits P-glycoprotein (EC50 = 14.4 μM); stains DNA and RNA in fixed cells with ex/em = 436/525 nm, respectively; labels acidic vesicles, such as lysosomes, in live cells for long-term imaging with ex/em = 458/470-580 nm, respectively
