Description
A peptide inhibitor of enkephalin-degrading enzymes; inhibits aminopeptidase, dipeptidyl aminopeptidase, ACE, and enkephalinase (IC50s = 3.3, 1.4, 2.4, and 10 µg/ml, respectively, for the monkey brain enzymes); selective for these enzymes over human serum aminopeptidase A (IC50 = >100 µg/ml), as well as porcine kidney aminopeptidase B, aminopeptidase M, and DPP-1, -2, -3, and -4 (IC50s = >55 µg/ml for all); inhibits chemotaxis, production of ROS, and exocytosis of glucuronidase and collagenase in PMNs; potentiates enkephalin-induced action potentials in rat hippocampal slices; enhances the antinociceptive effects of Leu-enkephalin in mice at 5 µg/animal
