A triterpenoid saponin with diverse biological activities; an agonist of the 5-HT2C receptor (EC50 = 147.41 µM in HEK293 cells expressing the human receptor in a calcium mobilization assay); stimulates PGE2 production in isolated rat peritoneal macrophages at 100 µg/ml; protects SH-SY5Y cells from hydrogen peroxide-induced cell death at 50 µg/ml
