An alkaloid and metabolite of berberine with diverse biological activities; reduces viability of SW480 cells at 1-200 µg/ml; increases the ratio of phosphorylated to unphosphorylated PI3K, Akt, and GSK-3β in isolated rat pancreatic tissue at 50 and 100 mg/kg; reduces rat blood glucose levels in an oral glucose tolerance test in a model of STZ-induced diabetes at 50 and 100 mg/kg; reduces inflammation and hepatosteatosis in a rat model of high-fat diet-induced NAFLD
